Advancing rigorous philosophical inquiry in Hindi and cultivating an independent intellectual tradition rooted in Indian languages.
In the decades following India's independence, academic philosophy was predominantly conducted in English, leaving relatively few platforms for serious philosophical discourse in Hindi. Recognizing this challenge, philosopher Yashdev Shalya dedicated his career to creating institutions and journals that enabled rigorous scholarship in Indian languages.
He established the Akhil Bharatiya Darshan Parishad in 1954 and later guided several influential philosophical journals including Darshanik, Tattva Chintan and Darshan Sameeksha.
Unmilan emerged from this intellectual movement and continues that vision through original research, critical debate, translation and philosophical reflection. Published by Darshan Pratishthan, Jaipur, the journal remains an enduring forum for scholars working in Hindi.
